Free trial: Joppa Pro and Team start with a 14-day trial, with no charge. Cancel from the customer portal before it ends and you pay nothing; otherwise, the first year is charged on its last day. Polar emails you 3 days before the trial ends, then 7 days before each yearly renewal. On your bank statement, the charge shows the name Joppa. Once the trial is over, payments are not refunded (see the refund policy), except for billing errors.
One server of each: in the free version you get one PostgreSQL, one MySQL, one MariaDB and one Mailpit. Each server serves all your projects, with one database per project. Joppa Pro lets you run several servers of the same engine (two PostgreSQL in two versions, for example).
When a feature needs Joppa Pro, Joppa explains it and offers See Joppa Pro. Prices are on the Pricing page; the comparison sets Joppa against Lerd, Herd, DDEV and others.
Activate Joppa Pro
Right after purchase
The thank-you page offers Open in Joppa: the app opens and fetches the license on its own.
By signing in
Settings › License › Sign in opens the sign-in page in the browser. Enter the email you purchased with: the link sent by email reopens Joppa, which activates the license. Sign-in must be completed within 30 minutes; Reopen sign-in restarts it.
With the key
Settings › License › Enter a key. The key is in the purchase confirmation email and in the customer portal.
The Team plan
The Team plan gives Joppa Pro to each member, with their own license key, active on a single machine: one seat, one machine. It is bought for 3 members or more.
To have the whole team work with the same configuration, share it in joppa.toml, on every plan: domains, services, database and extensions, versions, worktrees and processes. Each member who adds the repository sees Joppa’s plan and applies it in one click.
Manage the team
The person who buys manages the team from their account on the website: Manage subscription opens the customer portal, already signed in with their email. There they can:
- Assign a seat to a member, by email. They receive an invitation to accept, valid for 24 hours; it can be resent.
- Revoke a seat to give it to someone else.
- Add seats during the year: they’re billed pro rata.
Activate Joppa as a member
Once you’ve accepted the invitation, activate Joppa as you would for Pro:
- Settings › License › Sign in, with your own email (the one the seat was assigned to);
- or Settings › License › Enter a key: your key is in the email you received and in the customer portal (your account › Manage subscription).
On several machines
A Pro license activates on 3 machines, a team member’s seat on one. Deactivate this Mac (with confirmation) frees its seat: Joppa goes back to the free version there.
Offline
The key is kept in the system keychain. Joppa rechecks it every 24 hours when the internet is available: getjoppa.com asks Polar and returns a signed proof, valid for 7 days, that the app checks on this Mac. Editing the keychain or setting the clock back does not turn Pro on. Without a connection, the license stays active for 7 days: after 3 days without a check, the status bar shows “License not verified”; after 7 days, Pro turns off until the next successful check. Reconnect the machine (and let Joppa through if a firewall blocks getjoppa.com or api.polar.sh), then click Verify.
License alerts
When something needs your attention, the status bar at the bottom of the window shows it: in amber for a warning, in red when Pro is off or a payment failed. Click it for the explanation and the button that fixes it.
| Alert | When | Button |
|---|---|---|
| “License not verified” | Joppa has not reached getjoppa.com for 3 days; the date Pro will turn off is given. | Verify now |
| “Pro off: license not verified” | No check for 7 days: Pro is off until the next one. | Verify now |
| “Pro ends on …” | You cancelled the renewal; the alert shows in the last 14 days. | Renew (your account) |
| “Payment failed” | The renewal payment failed. | Update payment (your account) |
| “License removed” | Polar refused the key (subscription ended, refund, seat removed, Mac deactivated elsewhere). | Open settings |
A normal subscription renewal shows nothing: Polar e-mails you a receipt.
Back to the free version
If the license is revoked (subscription ended, refund, seat revoked), Joppa goes back to the free version. Nothing is deleted, but the services beyond the free version are stopped and can no longer be started: the Pro-only engines (Redis, Valkey, Typesense, Meilisearch) and, for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and Mailpit, the servers past the first one (the oldest stays usable). Their page shows “Included in Joppa Pro”; their containers and data stay, and they start again as soon as you are back on Pro. The databases of a locked server can still be exported as .sql (see Export the databases). The Analytics tab no longer shows its charts, nor the Inspector tab its requests. A tunnel that’s already open stays open until you close it, but no new one can open; sharing on the local network keeps working. Database snapshots stay listed and can be deleted, but no longer taken or restored, and Joppa no longer takes one before a deletion or a replacement.
